Kungsleden 2021

Time to head north

I was born in Finland and as a kid, I spent most of my summers up north at my grandma’s house. I always loved being up there. There’s something about the never-setting sun, the soft light, the color of the lakes and the forests, the sweet strawberries and fresh but simple food.

I have some family business in Finland and Norway this summer so I thought why not hop on a trail in between, and the one trail that stuck out the most was the “Kungsleden” in Sweden. A 480km trail on the border to Norway. I’m expecting tons of mosquitos, but the trail should be beautiful. Its profile looks super easy, since it’s mostly flat and it winds through huge valleys with big views. I think it is going to take me about 15 days give or take, and I can’t wait to finally get back out into the wilderness after having spent the last year sitting at a desk at work. It’s time to get these legs back into shape.

I’m going to hike the “Kungsleden” first and then I’ll keep going on the Norwegian long trail with the impossible name “Jotunheimstien”.
